After climbing so many stairs to get closer to the beautiful & impressive Tian Tian Buddha on Lantau island, I heard foreigners talking about the Nazi symbol on the Buddha. It had absolutely nothing to do with it, but people often do the confusion.
The Real Meaning It is the oldest known symbol. The Swastika is an ancient symbol that has been used over 3 000 years.
During the following thousand years, the image of the Swastika was used by many cultures around the world including China, Japan, India, Southern Europe & even Native Americans. It was used to represent Life, Sun, Power, Strength & good Luck.
The Nazis twisted the Swastika, a symbol of the Buddha, into an emblem of hate. These conflicting meanings are causing problems in today’ society. For Buddhists & Hindus, the Swastika is a very religious symbol that is commonly used. Unfortunately, the Nazis were so effective at their use of the Swastika emblem, that many people do not even know any other meaning for the Swastika.
